This issue of Adam’s naming of Eve was offered by Bruce Ware in one of his audios on CBMW as well. In that same lecture, he says that when Genesis says that Seth was found to be more in the likeness of Adam, this means character and morality and in the full image of God because the language is similar to that found earlier in the creation account. I guess the evil nature found in Cain came from Eve, but the good nature of Seth came from Adam. (As if Cain, the evil seed, was made so by Eve, but that which was like Adam as found in Seth was good. ????) If you read the whole account though, Eve named the boys including Seth.

I think it’s laughable that he can use Adam naming Eve as an example, gloss right over the account of Eve naming Seth (having dominion over him?) and then jump to the eisegesis that Seth being found in the likeness of Adam means that men are more like God and that evil comes through the woman.

I also like Walter Kaiser. I purchased a set of his teaching classes going through the OT. He has a wealth of wisdom that is amazing. We don’t agree on everything, but I have learned how to appreciate the wisdom of those who differ from me.

Kaiser is great.

He points out that “helpmate” is a horrible mistranslation, one that Mr. Slick apparently likes to use. “helpmeet” is a pretty good translation but is archaic and so many do not know what it means.

In my understanding, one other reason for the Adam and the animals narrative is the subtext of anti-beastiality that the reader is supposed to discern, none of the animals was fit for a mate.

The naming by Adam is an EXAMPLE of him exercising authority of the animals that God gave to both the man and the woman.

Gen 2:19

Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

If you study the wording, one sees that there is NO command from God to name the animals, this is because the authority to do so is ALREADY in the command from Gen 1.
